President Duterte Swears in New LMP Officers

MALACAÑAN PALACE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inducted into office the new set of National Officers of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) led by Mayor Luis ”Chavit” C. Singson at the President’s Hall, Malacañan Palace last 3 December 2019.

Mayor Chavit Singson of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur together with the LMP National Officers are expected to push for advocacies that would provide better opportunities for municipalities. “Our municipalities have a lot to offer, but there are a lot of factors limiting us to perform and to be effective Local Chief Executives,” Mayor Chavit said.

The LMP is also advocating the protection and advancement of local autonomy and decentralization. “We are behind President Duterte’s call to empower the LGUs and to do all that’s necessary to see genuine progress in our localities,” Mayor Chavit added.

When asked of his plans for the league of mayors, Mayor Chavit answered, “We will see to it that during my administration as National President, our municipalities will enjoy partnerships with local and international organizations so we don’t solely rely on our National Tax Allotments to implement projects.”

The association of 1,488 municipalities elected their new set of National Officers during the 1st National Directorate Meeting last 6 November 2019 at New World Hotel, Makati City. AGP
